ITINERARY

2-Day Colca Canyon Tour Itinerary with Connection to Puno

Day 1: Arequipa – Pampa Cañahuas – Patapampa – Chivay – Hot Springs

Pick-up in Arequipa (8:00 a.m.)

The trip begins in the morning with pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa. Our guide will welcome you and share details about the route to the Colca Valley, one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the southern Peruvian Andes.

Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve – Pampa Cañahuas

As we travel, the urban landscape transforms into high plateaus and Andean grasslands. Our first stop is the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, the natural home of the elegant vicuñas, a protected species and symbol of the Andes. You may also see llamas, alpacas, and Andean birds.

Patahuasi – Altitude Infusion

We’ll stop in Patahuasi to enjoy a traditional coca or muña tea, ideal for helping the body adjust to the altitude. Here you’ll also find local products such as kiwicha bars, quinoa cookies, and artisanal chocolates.

Volcano Viewpoint – Patapampa (4,900 m a.s.l.)

We continue to the highest point of the route. From the Andes Viewpoint, you can see the southern volcanic chain: Misti, Chachani, Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca crown the immense high plateau. The feeling is unique, as here you experience the grandeur of the Andes in its full splendor.

Descent to the Colca Valley and Arrival in Chivay

The road descends into the valley, revealing pre-Incan agricultural terraces that are still cultivated by local communities today. We arrive in Chivay, the valley’s capital.

Andean Buffet Lunch

Enjoy a buffet lunch featuring traditional dishes prepared with local products.

Relaxation at the La Calera Hot Springs

In the afternoon, we will visit the famous La Calera Hot Springs (35°C – 38°C), perfect for soothing your body after your journey. The mountain setting enhances the experience.

Dinner on your own and Overnight in Chivay

We will return to Chivay. You can choose to have dinner at a restaurant or optionally attend a folk music performance (peña folclórica) featuring traditional dances such as the Wititi, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Accommodation at your selected hotel.

Day 2: Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint – Maca and Yanque Villages – Trip to Puno

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the canyon.

We begin the day early to enjoy the tranquility of the valley and its spectacular mountains illuminated by the sunrise.

Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint

The most anticipated point of the 2-Day Colca Canyon Tour with Connection to Puno. From this viewpoint, you can appreciate the true magnitude of the canyon, one of the deepest in the world.

With a bit of luck, you’ll see the Andean condor soaring, riding the thermal currents. An ideal moment for memorable photographs.

Antahuilque and Choquetico Viewpoints

On the return trip, we’ll make panoramic stops to observe ancient agricultural terraces and unique natural formations sculpted by the Colca’s geological history.

Visit to the Andean Villages: Maca and Yanque

We continue to the traditional villages of the valley. In Maca, you can visit its colonial church and, if you wish, try the traditional Sancayo liqueur or a natural juice made from Andean cactus. In Yanque, you’ll admire the traditional clothing and handcrafted artisanal goods.
