ITINERARY
📍Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata Lodge
5:30–6:00 a.m. | Departure from Cusco
We depart in tourist transport towards Manu. The route crosses the Andean mountain range and valleys with perfect viewpoints for photos before descending into the cloud forest.
Stop | Pre-Incan Tombs of the Lupaca Culture
An interpretive visit to funerary structures that reveal the region’s pre-Incan legacy. The guide explains their historical context, rituals, and symbolic function in the Andes.
Colonial Paucartambo | Stone Bridge and Museum
A short walk through its traditional center and ethnographic museum to learn about dances, festivities, and customs of rural Cusco. Time for photos and stretching.
Lunch in the Cloud Forest
A picnic lunch surrounded by mist and evergreen vegetation. It’s the best showcase of the Andean-Amazonian transition zone, with bromeliads, mosses, and ferns.
Exploring the Cloud Forest
A gentle hike along trails with a high probability of bird sightings. Habitat of the Andean cock-of-the-rock and the spectacled bear; also orchids and trees covered in epiphytes.
Descent to the Amazonian Valley
The landscape becomes warm and humid. Stops at natural viewpoints to capture panoramic views of the Peruvian rainforest and observe flocks in flight.
Arrival at Posada Pilcopata (approximately 600 m above sea level)
Check-in, welcome drink, and brief orientation. Free time for showers and relaxation amidst tropical gardens.
Dinner and rest. Home-cooked meals with local ingredients. Evening free to relax to the sounds of the forest’s nighttime chorus.
📍Day 2: Pilcopata – Puerto Atalaya – Amazon Manu Lodge
6:00 a.m. | Breakfast and briefing. Nutritious breakfast (fruits, artisanal bread, local coffee). The guide explains safety, the day’s route, and target species.
Traditional coca leaf plantation. Cultural context, medicinal uses and Andean-Amazonian rituals, cultivation dynamics, and sustainable management.
Wildlife Rescue Center
Learn about the work against illegal trafficking: monkeys, parrots, macaws, and toucans in rehabilitation. A focus on conservation and responsible release.
Transfer to Puerto Atalaya
Scenic route to the Alto Madre de Dios River dock, passing through banana and cacao plantations and tropical trees.
Amazonian boat trip

Machuwasi Lagoon on wooden rafts
Hike and silent boat trip to observe hoatzins, herons, and kingfishers; occasional sightings of caimans and capybaras at sunset.
Night Hike (Optional)
Set out with flashlights to search for amphibians, tarantulas, insects, and the night monkey (douricouli). Safe and guided experience.
Dinner and rest at the lodge. Short talk on biodiversity and the plan for the following day.
📍Day 3: Amazon Manu Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick – Cusco
4:45–5:00 a.m. | Departure to the clay lick. We navigate upstream at dawn to the clay cliff where parrots and macaws gather to obtain minerals.
Macaw and Parrot Spectacular. From a fixed point, we observe and photograph red, blue, and green macaws, parrots, and parakeets. The guide explains why they consume clay and its nutritional role.
Breakfast at the lodge overlooking the river. Amazonian fruits, natural juices, and local coffee while water birds pass by. Time to pack.
Return by boat to Puerto Atalaya
Scenic boat trip with last chances to spot capybaras, caimans, and river turtles.
Lunch en route | Transition from jungle to Andes
Stop at a local restaurant. Then ascend through the cloud forest with views of the Kosñipata Valley.
Arrival in Cusco (approx. 6:00–7:00 p.m.)
End of the 3-day Manu Jungle Tour from Cusco. Return home with memories filled with Amazonian nature and culture.

Is good physical condition necessary?
