Recommendations
Tour Recommendations
Wear warm layers
Mornings and nights on the Altiplano can be very cold, even below freezing. It is recommended to wear several layers, including a thermal jacket, fleece, hat, gloves, and scarf to easily adapt to temperature changes.
Protect your eyes and skin
The sun’s reflection on the salt flats is intense. Wear sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, and a hat or cap to avoid sunburn and glare.
Hydration and snacks
Bring drinking water, fruit, nuts, or energy bars to maintain energy during long journeys. It is also recommended to bring toilet paper for stops at rustic or communal restrooms.
Camera and extra batteries
The Salar de Uyuni offers unique landscapes and opportunities for spectacular photographs. Be sure to bring spare batteries or a power bank, as some accommodations do not have a constant electricity supply.
Personal documents
Keep your passport or ID handy, as it’s required for check-in at accommodations and some security checks along the route.
Cash (Bolivianos)
Some services don’t accept cards, such as entrance fees to Incahuasi Island, restrooms, souvenirs, or other expenses during the tour.
Small backpack
Pack only what you need for one night, including a change of clothes, toiletries, and essential accessories. This makes transportation easier and keeps your belongings organized during the tour.
Respect the natural environment
Don’t leave trash, don’t extract salt, and don’t alter the landscapes. The Salar and its surroundings are fragile ecosystems that require respect and conservation.
