Constant Hydration:
Drink water in small amounts throughout the trek, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Dehydration is one of the main causes of fatigue and headaches at altitude.
Walking Pace:
Walk slowly and steadily. The key is not speed, but maintaining controlled breathing. The guide sets the ideal pace for acclimatization; follow it without trying to speed up.
Conscious Breathing:
Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This helps keep oxygen in your lungs longer and prevents premature fatigue.
Avoid Heavy Meals and Alcohol:
The night before the trek, avoid alcoholic beverages and heavy meals. Opt for light, carbohydrate-rich foods.
Sun and Weather Protection:
On Misti, solar radiation is strong during the day, and it gets very cold in the early morning.
Use sunscreen, UV sunglasses, and a hat during the day; Dress warmly at night.
Always listen to the guide’s instructions: They are trained to assess the weather, terrain, and the group’s condition. If at any point the guide recommends resting, slowing down, or stopping the ascent, it is for safety reasons.
Positive mindset and patience: Climbing Misti is both a physical and mental challenge. Maintaining a calm attitude and enjoying the process is essential.
